An evening in Hanover, added up

Hanover Casino Online, Added Up

Hanover Casino Tally is an independent guide to Playtime Casino Hanover on 5th Street, not the casino itself. The estimate below adds up an evening's drive, food and hours, with play money as a limit set at home.

Tonight's tally

The tally needs JavaScript. Done by hand: twice the straight-line distance from your town, times your car's litres per 100 km, divided by 100, times the pump price; add food and drinks. The play limit is a separate sum, decided at home and treated as spent. Distances are listed on the drive page.

What goes into an evening

An evening at the casino in Hanover has costs that are not bets. The drive counts both ways, so the tool doubles the straight-line distance or uses the road distance you copy from Google Maps. Food and drinks come next, then the hours of the visit. One cost is different: the play limit, meaning the money you set aside for the games.

This guide prints no prices, because prices change. You type in your own: fuel use in litres per 100 km, the pump price, money for food and drinks. The play limit is your own number, decided at home and treated as spent. It is the price of the evening, not money you expect back. The tool never suggests an amount, a game or a bet.

What is inside

The casino floor has 289 slot machines. Table games here are electronic, at 18 interconnected stations. An e-table, or electronic table game, is a table game run by a machine. Some stations are fully automatic and some are dealer-assist. The games are Blackjack, Roulette, Baccarat and War, with no live table games or poker room listed.

At the back of the casino is the Hanover Raceway Simulcast Theatre, where people watch horse-racing simulcasts and bet on the races. For cash, there is an ATM inside the casino and a second one in the raceway grandstand. U.S. currency can be exchanged at the cashier's cage, the casino's cash counter.

Food and drinks

The Arcade Bar is on the casino floor, open 9 a.m. to 1 a.m., 7 days a week. It serves pre-made items and an Arcade menu. The casino also has two restaurants. MATCH Eatery & Public House is a contemporary pub themed around sports and entertainment, and it keeps its own hours. The other is the Buffet, which has no regular hours published.

Both restaurants can be entered through the casino's main entrance or a patio entrance. This guide lists no menu prices, so the food money in the estimate is your own number.

The raceway next door

Harness racing is horse racing in which each horse pulls a driver in a light two-wheeled cart. Hanover Raceway, a harness track at 265 5th Street, shares the grounds with the casino. The Hanover, Bentinck & Brant Agricultural Society runs it. Races run in a summer season, with dates on hanoverraceway.com. On race days, admission and parking are free for fans.

Gaming at the raceway began on February 21, 2001. In May 2017 Gateway bought the Southwest Gaming Bundle, which included the slots at Hanover Raceway, under a 20-year agreement with OLG. An $18 million expansion then moved the casino into the agricultural society's Carriage Hall. It was renamed Playtime Casino Hanover, with a grand opening in April 2019.

Online play in Ontario

Ontario's regulated online gambling market opened on April 4, 2022, managed by iGaming Ontario and regulated by the AGCO. A private online casino is legal here only with AGCO registration and an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario, whose directory is at igamingontario.ca. OLG.ca is the online casino of OLG, the provincial agency. Play is for people 19 or older, and only while they are physically in Ontario. BetGuard, at betguard.ca, lets a person exclude themselves from every regulated Ontario online site, OLG.ca included.

The paid links on this guide's home page are marked Ad. They lead to a private online casino partner for adults physically in Ontario. That partner is not OLG.ca, and the guide earns a commission from it.
